WEST AFRICAN DRUMMING CLASSES

Students learn to play the rhythms of Mali, including: Sunu, Dansa,
Madan, Suku, Ngri (Wasulunka), Take (Marakafoli), Didadi, Jakawara,
Yankadi and many others. Students learn both the accompaniment and
solo parts of the rhythms, although the focus is on solo technique.
Students learn to produce clear sounds on the drum, as well as work
on their timing and sense of rhythm. In addition to learning the
technical aspects of playing, students also come to understand the
social function that these rhythms and the drum itself have in
Malian society.

Classes are multi-level and on-going. ALL ARE WELCOME!

See the schedule below for locations and times.
